How to move in Munich
Taxi
Official taxis in Munich have a base price of 2.50 €, to which you must add a tariff according to the length of the way. The taximeter indicates a tariff in units of 0.20 €.
Average tariffs: from 0 to 5 km : 1. 45 € -
From 5 to 10 km : 1.30 € -
From 10 km and over: 1.20 €
Underground, tram and bus
public transports in Munich are the best and cheapest way to move through the city. A daily ticket valid on the entire transport system costs € 4.60 for the city and € 9.20 for the city and the suburbs.
The heart of the public transports is represented by the two underground networks, the regional one and the high-speed one, which connect to the city centre.
Buses ensure on time connection within the municipality of Munich. Every bus is marked with a number, indicating the line where it operates (50-199). Currently there is a total of 70 lines .
Tram lines guarantee a fast service as well. There are also 4 night lines active.
Tickets and prices
City tour card: for 1 person (Single) or for groups of maximum 5 adults ( 2 kids aged between 6 and 14 are considered as 1 adult). This card allows to travel for 1 or 3 days on tram, bus and underground within the urban area (Innenraum, rings 1-4) or in all areas (Gesamtnetz, rings 1-16). Ticket gives access to many discounts in museums, monuments and restaurants, for instance, the Deutsches Museum, the Nymphenburg castle, the Residenz palace, and the Olympic Park (with visit of the stadium and lift of the Olympic tower) and Hard Rock Cafè
Single Tageskaerte: for 1 adult (over 15 ), valid all day, it gives countless access to tram, bus and underground.
Ticket price is according to the zones(rings), in which the city is divided.
5,00 € urban area (Innenraum, rings 1-4),
6,70 € extended urban area (München XXL, rings 1-8),
5,00 € suburban area (Außenraum, rings 5-16) or
10,00 € access all areas (Gesamtnetz, rings1-16).
If you plan to stay in Munich for more than 1 day, there is a 3-day ticket, "3 Tage Innenraum" for 12,30 € (this ticket is only available for the urban area - Innenraum - until 4th ring
Partner Tageskarte: for a maximum of 5 adults (2 kids aged between 6 and 14 are considered as one adult). This card costs respectively 9,00 € for the urban area, 11,80 € for the extended urban area, 9,00 € for the suburban area, 18 € for all areas, and 21 € for 3 days (this last one valid only for the urban area)
For those staying more than 3 days
We recommend to purchase the IsarCard, to be chosen among weekly, monthly or yearly ticket. This is also based on the “rings” system.
