Just behind the Marienplatz lies the Viktualienmarkt, the most famous food market in Munich, which origins date back to the beginning of the 19th century. And very few things have changed since then.
The atmosphere of the past is still alive, thanks to the traditional “corporations” of the vegetables sellers, whose courtesy in serving the customers can easily give way to rude Bavarian expressions, when they lose their patience!
All around the market swarms with colours and tastes, and behind the characteristic desks, any kind of fresh fruit is available, even if prices are not always what you can call affordable.
In summer, the area turns into one of the liveliest and most crowded open air pubs of the city (the famous beer gardens), full of tourists intent to catch the sounds and tastes coming from the near market.
